The rules of the contest, in plain English.

Entry

Entry is free. No purchase, no fee, no deposit.
One entry per person — not per email address. Additional entries created by the same person void every entry that person holds, including the first.
We may request identification before paying any prize.
Registration closes Mon Oct 19, 8:15 PM ET. There is no entry after that time. An entry made after week 6 has begun can pick only a team whose game has not kicked off.
Your entry counts from the moment you register. Verifying your email is only needed to sign in and make picks.
An unverified entry that never picks is scored as a loss in its first week, the same as any missed pick.

Picks

Select one team per week to win its game outright.
A team may be used once per entry for the whole contest.
Your pick locks at the kickoff of the game you selected — not at the first game of the week.
You may change your pick any time before that kickoff.
A missed pick is scored as a loss.

Results

A win keeps you alive. A loss or a tie eliminates you.
A postponed or canceled game voids the pick. The entry survives that week with a bye, and the team can be used again.
If every remaining survivor loses in the same week, everyone alive at the start of that week is reinstated and the pool rolls on. The team each entry picked that week still counts as used. Reinstatement is checked before we declare a winner.
A verified site outage in the 30 minutes before a deadline extends that deadline. An entry with no pick recorded during a verified outage is credited a bye, not eliminated.
Admins may correct results or statuses; every correction is logged.

Prize

$1,000 to the last surviving entry, paid by the show out of pocket — there is no sponsor and no entry fees.
The contest ends the moment one entry remains. We do not play out the rest of the season.
If more than one entry survives the final week, the prize is split evenly.
If every entry still alive leaves the pool (forfeits, deletes its account, or is voided), the contest ends at the next week close and the prize passes to the last entry eliminated.
Winners must be a U.S. resident, 18 or older, and verify their identity before payment.
A winner who does not claim within 14 days forfeits, and the prize passes to the last entry eliminated.
If more than one share of a split prize goes unclaimed, each share passes down separately, to the most recently eliminated entries that have not already been offered a share. No entry is offered more than one.
Prize paid within 30 days of verification.
